The Angelina Vicente State Indigenous High School plays a key role in preserving the culture and providing an education for young people from the indigenous communities of Brejão, Taboquinha, Água Branca, and Cabeceira in the municipality of Nioaque, Mato Grosso do Sul. With the goal of expanding our reach and strengthening sustainable development in our territory, we are developing a training program for our management team.
This project aims to train 8 educators and leaders in fundraising techniques and the development of projects focused on the nonprofit sector. By mastering these tools, our institution will evolve from being merely an educational center to becoming a platform for enabling sociocultural initiatives, ensuring financial autonomy and the continuity of projects that promote indigenous identity. Investing in our capacity-building ensures that Indigenous education has the technical resources necessary to thrive and transform our local reality.
Currently, the management of educational and sociocultural projects at the Angelina Vicente State Indigenous School faces a critical technical bottleneck: a lack of staff trained in fundraising and the development of projects aimed at the nonprofit sector. In a scenario where the preservation of Indigenous identity and the school’s sustainability depend on external initiatives, our team has the ideas and the drive, but lacks the fundraising tools necessary to turn our projects into a viable and lasting reality.
Our solution is to provide an intensive technical immersion program for a team of eight professionals from our community. Through hands-on training in fundraising, we will equip our administrators and educators to identify grant opportunities, develop competitive proposals, and manage the administrative aspects of funding. This training will function as a capacity-building center, where technical knowledge will be grounded in our cultural reality, ensuring that the school becomes self-sufficient in seeking partnerships that support our high-quality education.
The project’s core activities consist of an immersive training cycle for 8 staff members of the Angelina Vicente State Indigenous School, focused on enhancing our capacity to secure funding. The schedule includes:
Technical Training Workshop: Intensive training on project development, public and private calls for proposals, and accountability in the nonprofit sector.
Project Portfolio Development: Hands-on work writing and structuring at least two strategic projects for the school, ready for funding applications.
Follow-up Mentoring: Post-training support sessions to guide the submission of the first projects.
Use of Funds: The funds raised will be invested directly in making this training possible: 50% allocated to hiring specialized consultants/instructors in fundraising; 30% for instructional materials, management tools, and supplies for the sessions; and 20% for logistics related to team mobilization (transportation, meals, and support for conducting the course in the local community). Our commitment is that every real donated will be converted into technical expertise, ensuring our school’s long-term autonomy.
